BRUCETON MILLS - Since 1853 - a nice place to stop Folks still talk about the BIG bank robbery! In a nice little pamphlet depicting the history of Bruceton Mills, published by Sisler Heritage Enterprises, Bruceton Mills is said to have been known as “Milford” in 1853. The town was organized with 20 homes, one being the Hoffman home. This beautiful home located alongside the dam is headquarters today for “Caterings by Tina at the picturesque Waterfall Inn.” Mostly private catering parties are held here, but some special events are open to the public. Even though it happened 83 years ago this summer, the town’s folks still talk about the attempted bank robbery of 1921. Citizens were pre-warned about the band of four robbers who were armed with n i t r o g l y c e r i n , fuses and caps. They were caught! One wounded, one shot dead! And according to the Sisler version, “The shot that killed one bandit was so close to his companion that it cut his suspenders.” Today, Bruceton Mills is still a small town, and its people are very friendly. If you’d like any of the old-time bank robbery photos, or other historical pictures, stop in at The Mill Place. You’ll find quite a selection, and some copies are for sale. Details:
